About this product

My mildest-smelling balm, with no added fragrance or essential oils. Arrowroot takes away the shine tallow can leave, so it makes a good face cream, and beeswax helps skin hold onto moisture, so it's great on hands too. It melts the moment it touches warm skin.

  • Rub a little from the jar with a clean, dry fingertip.
  • Press into face, hands, elbows or heels.
  • Start small. You can always add more.
  • Grass-fed tallow – From our local Marlborough butcher, rendered by hand
  • Sweet almond oil – Adds softness and helps it melt smoothly
  • Calendula-infused olive oil – My home-grown calendula, for extra softness and slip
  • Arrowroot – Takes away the shine so skin feels silky
  • Beeswax – Holds it solid and helps skin hold moisture

Good questions

Questions about this one

What does it smell like?

Very little. There's no added scent, so you may notice a faint, natural buttery note from the tallow. I render it several times to keep that as mild as I can.

Is it greasy?

Not really. Tallow is rich, but arrowroot takes away most of the shine, so skin feels silky rather than slick. If it ever feels oily, you've used too much.

Can I use it on my face?

Yes, it's made for face and body. Tallow can be too rich for oily or breakout-prone faces, so patch test first and start with a tiny amount.

Solid or whipped: what's the difference?

The solid balms are firmer. Beeswax and arrowroot give them less shine, and they travel well. The whipped balms are soft and fluffy. Both are rich, so start small.

Does it contain nuts?

Yes, it contains sweet almond oil. If you have a nut allergy, try our Whipped Tallow Balm – Unscented instead, and check its ingredient list first.
