Why "Gecko"?

I grew up in South Africa. Geckos were everywhere — on the walls, on the ceiling, always around. When my family moved to New Zealand, I was ten years old. Everything changed, but geckos stayed with me but this time in the form of decor on my walls. They were my reminder of home — small, familiar, always there.

I always knew that if I ever built something of my own, it would carry that name. Gecko Creationz is where I grew up and where I am now. South Africa and New Zealand, in one name.

How We Started

A few years ago, I was searching for skincare that worked for my kids. Everything I tried was either full of ingredients I didn't know or otherwise failed to deliver on its promises. I wanted something simple — something I could read the label and understand every word.

That search led me to tallow. Pure, grass-fed beef tallow — rendered the traditional way. Tallow is remarkably similar to the oils our skin produces naturally. It absorbs deeply without leaving a greasy layer. No synthetic barrier. No residue. Just genuine nourishment that your skin recognises.

I made my first batch in the kitchen. My family loved it. I made more. Friends asked for some. Then more friends, and so it grew...person by person. And THIS, helping people, is what I like doing best. This is the reason we continue to do what we do!

From Our Butcher to Your Bathroom

Every Gecko Creationz product starts with grass-fed beef tallow from our local Marlborough butcher. I render the tallow by hand in small batches — slowly, carefully, and multiple times until it's completely pure. That rendered tallow is then combined with natural botanicals, essential oils, and plant-based ingredients. No parabens, no petroleum, no aluminium. Only naturally derived ingredients are used, whenever possible. Some products need a preservative to prevent mould forming, but we only use this when absolutely necessary.

Every ingredient list on every product is short enough to read in ten seconds. If I wouldn't put it on my own kids, it doesn't go in the jar.

What We Stand For

• Short ingredient lists: If you can't read it, we don't use it. Every product has a transparent, no-nonsense ingredient list.
• Small batches, not factory runs: Every product is handmade by me in Renwick, Marlborough. Not outsourced, not mass-produced. When you buy from Gecko Creationz, you're buying something made by one person's hands.
• Honest skincare: We don't make miracle claims. We make skincare from real ingredients that nourish and protect your skin. That's it.
• Local sourcing: Our tallow comes from our Marlborough butcher. Our botanicals are sourced from New Zealand wherever possible. We keep it close to home.

A Family Business

Gecko Creationz is not a company with a marketing department. It's me, my family, and our workshop. The kids have grown up around the rendering pots and soap moulds. When you email us, you're talking to us — not a support team.

We're based in Renwick, a small town in Marlborough at the top of the South Island. If you've driven through wine country on the way to Picton, you've been through our neighbourhood.
